Renewing Your Electrician Trainee (ET) Card

The Electrician Trainee (ET) card issued by the State of California is valid for one year. You must renew your card annually until you apply for and pass the State Electrical Certification Exam.

If you are unsure of your card’s expiration date, you can verify it using the State’s official lookup tool:

Steps to Renew Your Electrician Trainee Card

  1. Step 1 – Request Your Renewal Letter

Contact California Electrical Training (CET) by phone at (562) 485-9144 or email at contact@cet-school.org to request your renewal letter.

Note: CET cannot issue a renewal letter if you are not current with your coursework or training requirements.

  2. Step 2 – Receive and Complete Renewal Documents

CET will email you a renewal letter and a renewal registration form. Please print these documents and complete the registration form fully.

  3. Step 3 – Submit Your Renewal to the DIR

Mail your completed paperwork to the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) at the address listed on the registration form.

There is no fee if your paperwork is submitted before your ET card expires. If your card has expired, a $25 reinstatement fee applies.

  4. Step 4 – Confirmation from the State

The State of California will notify you in writing once your renewal has been processed or if additional information is required.
